The Futures Matter Program is an 8-week, paid summer research experience for high school students at the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital.  High school students will be placed with a researcher for a hands-on science experience while being exposed to various careers in biomedical research. During the program they will have the opportunity to engage in discussions and seminars lead by faculty and trainees. There will also be other age-appropriate activities that will enrich the summer experience.  

Program Eligibility

  • Ability to meet the time commitment of the program - this is a full time internship, Monday - Friday, approximately 8 hours per day.

  • Rising Junior or Senior that meet either of the below requirements:

    • Attends a Columbus City High School, KIPP Public Charter School or Cristo Rey High School

    • And/or resides in one of the following zip codes (43205, 43206, 43207, 43211, 43224)

  • 16 years of age or older.

  • Interest in a biomedical research career.

  • Underrepresented minority, economically disadvantaged and/or disabled students are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Must have the ability to work independently but will be working under supervision.

  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

  • Transportation/lodging is not provided.

2022 Program Dates

Application open: February 4, 2022

Application deadline: March 10, 2022

Internship begins: Monday, June 13

Internship ends: Friday, August 5

 

Students must be available on the specific dates below in order to participate in the program:

Wednesday, April 20 - Futures Matter Placement Orientation

Monday, June 13 - Nationwide Children's Hospital Orientation
