Student Information
Research Education is not able to place students into a lab outside of our structured programs. Instead we ask interested students to contact the Principal Investigators (PI) directly to inquire about opportunities. Here is a link to look up our research programs. Also, per NCH policy, students must either be offered a paid position (through HR) or be getting school credit or fulfilling the requirement for an internship for graduation in order to be considered for an unpaid internship.
Research education and training are vital to the mission of Nationwide Children's Hospital and The Research Institute. As a top-ten free-standing pediatric research center, the Research Institute has an outstanding faculty, dedicated to training and mentoring the next generation of scientists in pediatric research. As a result, a large number of students and trainees are based at The Research Institute, including undergraduates, residents and fellows in pediatrics and pediatric surgery, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows. Instruction occurs in informal and formal didactic sessions, one-on-one interactions, and hands-on laboratory training.
Students must provide documentation of the school credit that will be earned for the experience or the requirement of an internship for graduation. These individuals will be considered Research Interns and will onboard through Research Education and Development at The Research Institute. These students will fill out the "Unpaid Student Research Submission Form."
Students should be prepared to upload:
- Flu shot documentation
- Proof of course credit for their research experience
- A negative TB skin test within the last 12 months
- Vaccination records for those here longer than 6 months or working in vivarium
Additionally, students need to know their Principal Investigator's full name & email address to provide on their submission form.
With research as a core component of our mission, Nationwide Children’s Hospital encourages medical students to pursue mentored research activities. Interested students should review our principal investigators’ profiles to identify researchers who may be conducting research of interest to them. Medical students must be full-time and attending a four-year, LCME accredited medical school. These students will fill out the "Medical Student Research Form."
Students should be prepared to upload
- Flu shot documentation
- A letter of good standing from their university (typically obtained from an advisor)
Additionally, students need to know their Principal Investigator's full name & email address to provide on their submission form.
