September 15, 2020 1:00-4:00pm | Stecker Auditorium

DISCOVERYx is a TEDx-inspired event held annually.  This year's talk will showcase at least 6 presenters sharing an idea, an opportunity, an experience or a discovery and how this has contributed to improving health and wellness here at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH). Through communication, speakers will share thought-provoking ideas to spark conversation, make connections and inspire others. Enthusiasts from all disciplines at NCH are welcome to apply. The selected presenters will receive professional coaching in preparation for a live TEDx-like event on September 15, 2020. An oversight committee will select speakers based on their passion and potential to deliver innovative ideas to the community. We hope you will join us for this year's event as we explore and celebrate the story behind discoveries that make a difference to improve pediatric health.

Did you know?
3 previous DISCOVERYx speakers went on to speak at the Annual TEDx Columbus event, and one,Tamekia MizLadi Smith, went to the Annual International TEDx event in Vancouver in 2018!

Selected speakers must be available to schedule and attend four speaker training sessions (in-person and phone calls) between July - September and a live rehearsal on September 14 with our experienced TEDx speaker coaches. Training sessions will help to shape and mold presentations to fit the TEDx-like model, including guidance for visual presentation, conciseness, and engagement.

Applicants who cannot fit the required training sessions into their schedule should not apply.

VIDEOTAPING: DISCOVERYx 2020 will be videotaped during the live event on September 15, and recordings will be publically available following.

The deadline to submit an application is Monday June 15, 2020 @ 5:00pm. Applicants will be notified by late-June.

Applicants will need to explain in 100 words or fewer an idea, an opportunity, an experience or a discovery and how this has contributed to improving health and wellness. We are looking for diverse ideas, throughs and speakers that represent all branches of our institution.

Applicants must also submit a two-minute (or less) video to pitch their idea. Part of the DISCOVERYx format is identifying passionate, energetic speakers who can move the audience. Applicants may upload their video via the application page or they may upload a video to YouTube (no other video hosting sites will be accepted) and paste the video’s URL (link) in the video upload field on the application page.

Videos may be created using any device available to the applicant, including cell phone video cameras and other mobile devices. (Acceptable file formats for video submission are .MOV, .MPEG4, .MP4, .AVI, .WMV, .MPEGPS, .FLV, .3GPP, .WebM).
